Over the last five years, statistical evaluations in large and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies in Europe have shown that empty eluent storage containers lead to weekly breakdowns of high-pressure liquid chromatography systems (HPLC systems).

On average, 13 out of 100 HPLC systems fail within a week. Laboratory staff need an average of around 90 minutes to restore the system to a qualified or ready-to-measure state.

In economic terms, this means that cumulative costs of around €16,000 or around €197,000 per year can be incurred over a month. This does not take into account the fact that samples may have to be reprocessed or that entire series of measurements may not have been analyzed over a weekend. Nor has it been taken into account that system-critical components may have worn out or become defective and that the HPLC system may have to be thoroughly checked. One consequence of this is that bottlenecks can occur in resource planning and work processes.

As a result, more instruments than necessary are often kept in stock, consuming a lot of valuable space and energy, which can also be saved under the aspect of "green" analytics.

QuACX:smartEMS is a high-level eluent level measurement system that shows you the current fill level of your eluent storage containers, as well as the estimated time of a critical fill level with the pump parameters currently in use. Up to five eluent channels can be operated in parallel. Use eluent bottles from 250 mL up to 2000 mL and have the fill levels reliably checked online.
